Association (traffic)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Several vehicles together form an association if they take part in traffic as a whole. With regard to the traffic rules (rules of conduct), they are considered to be one vehicle. The sense and purpose is the unhindered movement in compliance with the association.

Associations are common in rail transport , road transport , aviation and shipping .

Rail transport

The train consists of part trains. These can be first, regular or subsequent members.

In Switzerland, several partial trains running in a train sequence with travel within sight are called a train set . This mode of operation is used in some rack railways .

shipping

Cargo ships pass through the Amsterdam city center during a major event on water in order to minimize the risk of accidents

In order to jointly ward off dangers at sea, for example from piracy or capturing , associations were formed as convoys or later convoys from the earliest times . Convoy ships could be merchant ships with stronger armament or warships with the special task of protecting merchant ships.

In inland navigation, push convoys or so-called ship trains are formed.
