The Association of Alternative Telecommunications Network Operators ( VAT ) represents the interests of the operators that have become active in Austria as a result of the liberalization of the telecommunications market and, since it was founded in 1997, has made a significant contribution to the creation of fair and competitive framework conditions on the Austrian telecommunications market.

The association represents the major alternative network operators active on the Austrian market and forms a counterpoint to the former monopoly A1 Telekom Austria .

The association's tasks include dealing with the issues of telecommunications law, regulation, interconnection and numbering, as well as public relations work to create a positive climate for telecommunications liberalization in Austria.

VAT is a network partner of the Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry .
