Colt Technology Services (formerly Colt Telecom Group ) is a European IT and telecommunications service provider and offers data, voice and managed services to medium-sized and large companies as well as wholesale customers and resellers . The Group's parent company is Colt Group Holdings Limited . The name is derived from C ity o f L ondon T elecommunications , in London, the company has its origins. The main shareholder is Fidelity Investments .

The company operates its own fiber optic networks and data centers in Europe and is registered in Luxembourg . It is a provider of ICT solutions for business customers that operates throughout Europe and on the US east coast and has its own fiber-optic network that is around 83,000 kilometers long . Using 51 Metropolitan Area Networks in European metropolises , around 27,500 buildings are directly networked with fiber optics in 32 countries and 213 cities. Colt operates at least 850 data centers. In Germany, the company has branches in Berlin , Düsseldorf , Frankfurt am Main (headquarters), Hamburg , Hanover , Cologne , Munich and Stuttgart .

  • 1992: Colt Telecom was founded by Fidelity Investments.
  • 1993: Colt obtained a license as a public telecommunications operator and is able to compete as a provider of voice and transmission services in the London area. The 15 kilometer long London city network was completed.
  • 1994: Colt signed an interconnection agreement with Energis and BT , expanding its business.
  • 1995: Colt Telecom GmbH was founded in Frankfurt in September and receives a license to offer services. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) grants Colt an operating license as a national telecommunications operator for the UK.
  • 1996: Colt was listed on the London Stock Exchange and was listed on NASDAQ in New York. The first 50 kilometers of fiber optic will be laid in downtown Frankfurt. Colt Telecommunications receives an operating license for France.
  • 1997: Fiber optic networks are also laid in the inner cities of Berlin, Hamburg and Munich and the Frankfurt city network is further expanded. COLT has over 1,000 customers. Colt Telecom España SA receives an operating license for Spain. Colt signs an interconnection contract with France Telecom .
  • 1998: Colt started a fifth city network in Düsseldorf and established a branch in Stuttgart. Customers were also connected outside the city networks, making Colt a nationwide telecommunications provider. Interconnect contracts are signed with Belgacom and Swisscom . Colt acquires Imaginet, until then the French market leader in independent commercial Internet service providers.
  • 1999: The first German data center for webhousing and webhosting services was established in Frankfurt . Colt is expanding its European network to Cologne, Stuttgart, Geneva, Vienna, Rotterdam, Marseilles, Lyon and Barcelona.
  • 2000: Colt started operating data centers in Berlin, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London and Paris. New branches are opened in the cities of Turin, Hanover, Antwerp, Stockholm, Birmingham, Dublin and Rome. Colt now has over 5,000 customers.
  • 2001: With four branches in Lisbon, Copenhagen, The Hague and Valencia as well as two newly connected countries (Denmark and Portugal), the Europe-wide COLT network now reached a total of 32 cities in 13 countries. Colt has over 10,000 customers.
  • 2003: Colt was the first company to offer real direct connectivity and international Ethernet services via synchronous digital hierarchy .
  • 2004: Colt first offered Ethernet with 1 Gbit / s .
  • 2006: In August 2006 COLT's headquarters are relocated from London to Luxembourg and COLT Telecom plc is merged with the newly founded COLT Telecom Group SA .
  • 2007: Additional data centers were opened in Lisbon and Copenhagen.
  • 2009: Colt offers its services for the first time in the USA : Ethernet services were offered in the cities of Boston , Chicago , New York and Newark .
  • 2010: The company name is changed from COLT Telecom to Colt Technology Services and COLT Telecom Group SA is renamed Colt Group SA .
  • 2014: Colt acquired the Japanese telecommunications company KVH Co. Ltd. and thus expanded its infrastructure, especially in Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong
  • 2015: Fidelity Investments acquired all Colt shares. Trading in the share has been suspended since October. The holding company was then converted into a limited company.
