The FMR LLC (short for F idelity M anagement and R esearch L imited L iability C ompany ), often Fidelity Investments or just Fidelity , is a US-based companies of the financial services industry with headquarters in Boston , Massachusetts. The company is one of the largest asset managers in the world and operates as an investment company with numerous funds , the associated sales structure , investment advisors and as an online broker and stockbroker . The company is also active in other areas. Among other things, it holds a majority stake in the telephone provider Colt Technology Services and owns a bus company , hotels and a temporary employment agency . The Fidelity Group employs 43,600 people worldwide (as of June 30, 2011).

In a study published in 2011 at ETH Zurich, FMR LLC was named the third most influential company in the world economy.

history

Founded in 1946 by Edward C. Johnson II, the company is still half owned by the Johnson family and the other half is held by senior executives. Edward Johnson III was the group's chairman until March 2014. His daughter Abigail Johnson has been the successor at the top of the company since then; with around 25%, it is the largest individual shareholder.

The company, which originally focused on the American market, became increasingly international with the founding of the sister company Fidelity Worldwide Investment (FIL Limited) in 1969. While Fidelity operates under the name Fidelity Investments in North America , the company operates under the Fidelity Worldwide Investment brand in all other markets in which it is present ( Europe , Middle East , Africa , Asia-Pacific region) . In 1973 a branch was founded in London and in 1992 the company entered the German market with the opening of an office in Frankfurt am Main (since 2003 in Kronberg im Taunus ). Fidelity Worldwide Investment employs over 5,500 people in 23 countries and manages fund assets of 347.9 billion euros for more than 2.2 million customers (as of September 30, 2017).

Activities in Germany

In Germany , Fidelity Worldwide Investment has been active in the market since 1992 and manages total assets of 35.3 billion euros. The company's main location is Kronberg im Taunus . The financial services provider operates platform business in Germany through FIL Fondsbank (FFB). This specializes in the custody of investment fund shares and directs its services to independent financial advisors, investment companies and banks. FFB looks after assets of 17.7 billion euros in over 575,000 customer accounts. In the Asset Management division, Fidelity Worldwide Investment manages a fund volume of 20 billion euros in Germany. Under the Fidelity Worldwide Investment brand, 154 retail funds in Germany are sold directly and through more than 1,000 cooperation partners. Fidelity Worldwide Investment employs around 300 people in Germany and has the legal units FIL Investment Services GmbH, FIL Investments International - Frankfurt branch, FIL Investment Management GmbH, FIL Pensions Services GmbH, FIL Finance Services GmbH and FIL Fondsbank GmbH (formerly Frankfurter Fondsbank GmbH) (as of June 30, 2017).

In Germany, Fidelity especially offers fund products for private and institutional investors. The range of services includes equity, bond, mixed, money market and life cycle funds as well as special funds and company pension models. With the FFB, Fidelity also offers market participants the administration of fund investments. Fidelity has a global research network that covers around 92 percent of global market capitalization with its research results and company analyzes.
