The Association of German Paper Mills e. V. (VDP) is the leading industrial association of the German pulp and paper industry based in Bonn . The VDP is a registered association and a member of the Federation of German Industries . It represents political interests at the national level. As a member of the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI), he is actively involved in European lobbying . At the international level, the VDP also represents the German paper and pulp industry in the International Council of Forest & Paper Associations (ICFPA). The association is a member of the energy-intensive industries interest group in Germany .

The VDP was founded in 1872, making it one of the oldest industrial associations in Germany. 105 companies and seven regional associations have come together in it. The VDP represents over 95 percent of production and sales in the industry and is thus the spokesman and lobbyist for Europe's largest national paper industry.

The paper industry in Germany is No. 1 in Europe. In a global comparison, it ranks fourth behind China, the USA and Japan. With a turnover of 14.4 billion euros and an annual production of around 22 million tons (2019), a total of around 3,000 different types of paper are manufactured. Industry in Germany employs almost 40,000 people at around 160 production sites.
