history

The Printing & Media Technology Association was founded in 1872 as the “German-Austrian Book Printing Association”. In the course of time his name changed, from 1899 it was called "Reichsverband Österreichischer Buchdruckereibesitzer", from 1920 "Hauptverband der Buchdruckereibeitzer Österreichs", from 1946 "Hauptverband der Grafikunternehmen Austria" and finally from 1995 "Verband Druck & Medientechnik Österreich".

The association was founded and managed as a representation of the interests of the German-Austrian book printer industry and on the basis of voluntary membership. It was created out of the need to find a uniform basis for a negotiating community with the social partner, as well as the need to support companies in the area of economic management and to ensure good training for the next generation of skilled workers and managers.

The statutes were drawn up on November 7, 1872 and received approval from the Ministry of the Interior on December 16, 1872. On February 4, 1873 the first edition of the "Österreichische Buchdruckerzeitung" appeared and represented the interests of the book printer as an organ. One of the first tasks of the association as a representative of the printing house owners was the collective bargaining. The Association of Printing & Media Technology (at that time: the main association of graphic companies in Austria) was approved by the then Obereinigungsamt on April 29, 1948, ZI. 3 / 0EA / 1948-7) has been granted collective agreement as a voluntary professional association.

The basic tasks have hardly changed until today. What has changed, however: Since June 14, 2017, the Druck & Medientechnik association is no longer a collective agreement partner in the legislation (until 2017 collective agreement partner within the meaning of Section 4 (2) ArbVG).

With the decision BEA-300.501 / 0004-BEA / 2017 of May 9, 2017, announced on June 13, 2017 in the Wiener Zeitung, the Association of Printing & Media Technology was deprived of its collective agreement capability. The Association of Printing & Media Technology resigned from its role as a collective bargaining partner in September 2016 with the required qualified majority and recorded this in its statutes. The reason for resigning from the collective agreement mandate was the legal uncertainty that arose from the amendment to the Wage and Social Dumping Act. The collective agreement for the graphic industry was lost.
