Association of Hannoverscher Schützenvereine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of Hannoverscher Schützenvereine (VHS) is an amalgamation of currently 86 shooting clubs in the Hanover region with its headquarters in the Schützenhaus at Wilkenburger Strasse 30 in Hanover - Wülfel .

description

The association represents over 5000 shooters, including around 800 young shooters. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 won the marksman Christian Klees from the Hanoverian shooting club "Linden 04" in the small-bore prone the first gold medal for Germany.

Together with the city of Hanover, the VHS is responsible for the Hanoverian shooting system. The authoritative body is the Schützenstiftung founded in 1964 and administered by the city, in which the representatives of the VHS and the city are represented equally.

Hanoverian shooting history

The Hanoverian rifle system was first mentioned in 1468 in a letter of complaint from Duke Wilhelm the Elder. The latter complained that the Hanoverians, when they were in feud with their sovereign, shot a wooden parrot attached to a pole with crossbows. Duke Erich I von Calenberg-Göttingen granted the Hanoverian riflemen the privilege of an annual festival in 1529; festival regulations were issued in 1575. Today the Schützenfest Hannover describes itself as the largest festival of its kind worldwide.
