Association of Austrian Breweries

The Association of Austrian Breweries is an association based in Vienna .

History and goals

The association was founded on July 15, 1947 and represents the national brewing industry within the framework of the Association of the Food and Beverage Industry of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce . Elected officials and employees of the Chamber of Commerce who represent the interests of the brewing industry are active in the association. The aim of the association is to create an "economic, legal and socio-political environment in which the breweries can find the best possible framework for their business activities". The interests of the industry are to be represented within the Chamber of Commerce as well as externally.

In addition to its function as a lobby group, the association also serves as a service provider, with a focus on personal advice, information letters, support with sample cases and special legal advice. He is a member of the European brewers' association The Brewers of Europe .

The association is headed by a "steering committee" whose chairman is Siegfried Menz (chairman of the Ottakringer brewery ). In addition, there are three deputy chairmen: Heinrich Dieter Kiener ( Stiegl Brewery in Salzburg ), Markus Liebl ( Brau Union ) and Ewald Pöschko ( Braucommune Freistadt ).

Beer sommelier

The association has supported a training program for certified beer sommelier since 2006. On 1 December 2006, a training program was created with those certificates to Beer Bachelor sommelier , beer sommelier and certified beer sommelier can be purchased. The title of beer young sommelier is aimed at pupils of the Austrian state vocational schools and vocational secondary schools who, after (free) subjects such as "beer connoisseur" or "beer internship" at the end of their training and after submitting a project work, the examination for "beer young sommelier" can drop. The “Beer Sommelier” certificate is awarded after completing the relevant course and an examination with project work, as well as written, oral and practical exams. The training to become a certified beer sommelier takes place in accordance with the examination regulations of the Doemens Academy.

Publications

Every year the association publishes an “annual report” on developments on the Austrian beer market as well as “statistical data on the Austrian brewing industry”. In addition, the "beer news" is published about quarterly, which is aimed at a broader public.
