The Saul Zaentz Company is an American film production company . The company is headquartered in Berkeley , California.

history

Saul Zaentz Company was founded by Saul Zaentz in the early 1970s . The company emerged from the jazz label Fantasy Records in Berkeley, California, one of the most important jazz labels worldwide. In 1972 Saul Zaentz and his partners from Fantasy Records entered the film business. The first feature film they produced was Payday, starring Rip Torn , which won the 1974 National Society of Film Critics Awards. One flew over the cuckoo's nest in 1975, directed by Miloš Forman and with Michael Douglas as co-producer. The film received 5 Academy Awards, including one for best picture. The production company has produced a total of 10 feature films that have won multiple Oscars , Golden Globes , BAFTAs and Nebula Awards .

Middle-earth Enterprises

Middle-earth Enterprises, founded as Tolkien Enterprises and renamed in 2010, is part of The Saul Zaentz Company according to the American Doing business as and holds and markets the rights to JRR Tolkien's works The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit worldwide .
