In the animated series Forbidden Stories - When Jesus Was Unwanted , based on the book by Andrew Melrose, Brian Brown, Eric J. Dannenberg, and others. a., the experiences of the children Ana, Cyrus, Justin, Marcus and Zakkai in the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire that began after the great fire of Rome from July 18th to 19th, 64 AD are told.

The children find a safe hiding place from their persecutors at the baker's Ben and his wife Helena. The baker Ben tells the children about the stories from the Holy Land and the Bible . The children then found a secret organization that is supposed to preserve the Christian faith. They are endangered by Nero's henchmen, who are trying to catch them. On the run from Nero's captors, they help other Christians in need and spread the teachings of Jesus among the people.

The series was produced by the Christian media company Zondervan in cooperation with the evangelical organization Focus on the Family . The animations were made by the Irish Shepherd Films. The script was written by J. David Stern , Rob McFarlane and Eric J. Dannenberg . Directed by Jimmy T. Murakami .
Publications
The series was broadcast in 1997 in Great Britain and in German-speaking countries from 1998 to 2014 on ZDF , SF 2 , ORF 1 . Two specials for the series were published in 2000 with the title: The Easter Wonder and The Christmas Wonder , which were only shown once at Easter or Christmas in the year of the respective TV broadcast. The five-part DVD edition of the series is codenamed Jesus .
