The honorary title of Honored Military Aviator of the Russian Federation ( Russian Заслуженный военный лётчик Российской Федерации ) is one of three state military awards that tie in with and carry on the historical traditions of the Russian armed forces. The corresponding badge of honor was donated in the form of a medal on a ribbon in accordance with the law of the Russian Federation of March 30, 1992 and is awarded by the President of the Russian Federation. The first award took place on August 16, 1992.

Award terms

The honorary title is awarded for special merits in the further development of aviation technology, for excellent results in the field of training and education of flying personnel with many years of flight experience in military aviation without self-inflicted aircraft accidents .

Appearance and wearing style

The silver-plated medal made of non-ferrous metal was modeled on the "Honored Military Aviator of the USSR" and has the shape of an unequal-sided octagon (27 × 23 mm). The obverse shows a gilded fighter plane ascending to the left, with both its fuselage seats and the tail fin protruding over the edge of the medal. On the left above is the three-line inscription Заслуженный Военный Лётчик (de: Merited Military Aviator ). In the middle below the aircraft the writing РОССИЯ (de: Russia) can be seen in front of a right-hand laurel branch. Like all state awards, the medal is worn on the right side of the chest of the uniform jacket. The medal hangs on a silver-colored rectangular clasp, which is covered with fabric ribbon in the national colors of white / blue / red. An interim clasp for the medal was not awarded.
