Viktor Nikolajewitsch Bondarew ( Russian Виктор Николаевич Бондарев ; born December 7, 1959 in Novobogoroditskoye, Voronezh Oblast ) is a Russian Colonel General and was supreme commander of the air and space forces from August 2015 to September 2017 . From 2012 to 2015 he was Commander in Chief of the Russian Air Force .

Life

Bondarew finished middle school in 1977 and graduated from the Chkalov Military Aviation College in Borisoglebsk in 1981 . He then served as a flight instructor and swarm commander at the Chkalov Military Aviation College . He was later used as a navigator and squadron commander in an aviation training center. In the 1980s he was a participant in the Afghan war . In 1992 he graduated from the military academy of the air forces "JA Gagarin" , then served as a squadron commander and from September 1996 to October 2000 as the commander of the 899th Guards Fighter Pilot Regiment of the 105th Mixed Aviation Division of the 16th Army of the Air Force in Borisoglebsk. Bondarev took part in over 100 combat missions in the First Chechen War and in over 300 combat missions in the Second Chechnya . By Decree No. 709 of the Russian President of April 21, 2000, he was awarded the Hero of the Russian Federation for his service in both wars .

In 2004 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Moscow. From 2000, he was initially deputy commander of the 105th Mixed Aviation Division and, from 2004, its commander. Bondarev was appointed major general in 2005, served as deputy commander from May 2006 and from June 2008 as commander of the 14th Army of the Air Force in Novosibirsk . From July 17, 2009 to July 15, 2011, he was employed as the Deputy Commander in Chief and then until May 6, 2012 as Chief of Staff and 1st Deputy Commander in Chief of the Russian Air Force. From May 2012 he was commander-in-chief of the Russian Air Force and was promoted to Lieutenant General on August 9, 2012 and to Colonel General on August 11, 2014. On August 1, 2015, he was deployed as the commander of the newly formed air and space forces. On September 26, 2017, President Vladimir Putin dismissed Bondarev from military service with immediate effect. He was then elected committee chairman of the Federation Council on Defense and Security.

Others

Bondarev lives in Moscow. On May 9, 2015, he flew a Tu-160 in Moscow as a participant in the Victory Day military parade . He completed more than 3,000 flight hours and has mastered several types of combat aircraft, including the L-29 , MiG-21 and Su-25 .
