The Military Academy of the Air Force "JA Gagarin" ( Russian Военно-воздушная академия им. Ю. А. Гагарина ) is one of the military universities of the former Soviet Army . After the end of the Soviet Union , it is continued today by the Russian army .
history
In 1940, the Military Academy for Air Force Engineers “Prof. NJ Schukowski “ outsourced the faculties for commanders, radio locators and helmsmen . The academy was built on the basis of these faculties, supplemented by qualification courses for senior management. The newly established facility was initially referred to as the military academy for commanders and helmsmen of the Red Army Air Force . One year after the end of World War II , the academy was renamed the Military Academy of the Air Forces. After the early death of Yuri Gagarin , the military academy got his name. The seat of the academy is in Monino , a place near Moscow . The previous military academy of the air force "Nikolai J. Zhukovsky" became in 1946 the military academy for engineers of the air force .
At the academy, commanders of the various air force careers are primarily trained. In addition, it is the scientific center for working out the problems of the operational art of the air forces and the tactics of the individual types of aircraft.
The academy received the Order of the Red Banner in 1945 and the Order of Kutuzov in 1968 .
The Central Museum of the Air Force of the Russian Federation is also located in the barracks area of the Academy .
