Military academies of the Soviet Union
The military academies of the Soviet Union were the highest educational institutions of the armed forces of the USSR and centers of military scientific research of the USSR, the tradition of which is continued by the present military academies of the Russian Federation .

The General Military Academy of the Russian Armed Forces was founded in 1918 as the first military university in the Soviet Union . This was followed by the establishment of the Military Academy for Pioneer Troops , the Military Academy of the Telecommunications Force (1919), the artillery, the Military Medical Academy SM Kirov and the Naval War Academy NG Kuznetsov .
In the period that followed, further military academies were founded. These include the Military Political Academy , the Military Academy for Transport , the Military Academy for Air Force Engineers “Prof. NJ Zhukovsky ” and the Military Engineering University .
The military academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces , which was founded in 1936 and is probably the most famous military university of the USSR and the Russian Federation, took a top position .
The majority of these military academies also currently exist and provide academic training for officers of the Russian Federation, but also for officers from the armed forces of other countries. Among other things, officers of the Bundeswehr are also included.
The award of a gold medal is the highest honor for the successful completion of the military academy in question. It requires excellent performance in the studies and in the final state examination: In all subjects the grade 1 (very good), in the examination subjects of the state examination the grade 1 (very good) and for the diploma thesis the grade “Excellent”.
