Kazungula is a district and border town in the southern province of Zambia on the Zambezi , not far from the borders with Namibia , Botswana and Zimbabwe . Kazungula is the seat of the administration of the district of the same name with 68,265 inhabitants (2000 census).

Kazungula is located in the south of an extensive Zambezi River, where a lot of livestock is raised. The place is at the narrow point that dams this floodplain. It is an important trading center.

On the Botswana side is Kasane Airport with a paved, two-kilometer runway and terminal. The closest place on the Botswana side is also called Kazungula.

So far there has only been ferry traffic over the 400 meter wide Zambezi to Botswana. With the exception of air traffic, it is the only direct connection between the two countries. A one-kilometer-long bridge between Botswana and Zambia has been built since 2014. This is primarily intended to stimulate trade between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the port of Durban in South Africa . The construction costs are given at 3.9 billion rand . The opening is planned for the end of 2020.
