Sinazongwe is a place with 11,528 inhabitants, slightly above the Karibastausees on the road from Maamba to Choma in Southern Province in Zambia . It is 500 meters above sea level and is the seat of the administration of the district of the same name with 80,455 inhabitants (2000 census).

Next to Siavonga, Sinazongwe is the second place worth mentioning on Lake Kariba, a typical Zambian town with administration for the area of ​​the southern lake, whose citizens live mainly from fishing. Kapenta, the Lake Tanganyika sardine , is the most common type processed here. There are a few small restaurants, a small hospital and a guest house. The post office is a few kilometers away in Sinazese.

Sinazongwe was the port after the flooding of the reservoir and had the only lighthouse on the lake. However, that hasn't evolved. Tourists do come, but only to get on the house and safari boats or to drive to the lodge on the island of Chete on the Zimbabwean side, 17 kilometers away , the largest in the lake. A resort with chalets has recently been built. There is an unpaved runway.

With project funds, a school was built and a well was drilled. From 1986 there was a 2500 hectare cotton and wheat farm on the lake shore, but it went bankrupt.
