Twisting a square

This twisting is a manufacturing process and is, together with the displacement of the shear forming assigned to that for main group of the reshaping counts. When twisting, a torsional moment is introduced into the workpiece , causing torsion . When twisting, the torsional moment must be so great that the flow stress is exceeded and, as with all forming processes, a plastic (permanent) change in shape occurs. Adjacent cross-sections of the workpiece are rotated against each other about a common axis of rotation.

One differentiates:

• the twisting of workpieces having a round cross-section; it is used for the production of rock drills , for crankshafts with a plurality of strokes (rotation of the crank webs ) during torsional recrystallization , for reinforcing steel , by the distortion due to the work hardening of strength gains, and in torsion .
• the cabinets of workpieces having non-circular cross-section; it is used to twist the saw teeth at sawing , wherein propellers and propellers , as well as auger bits (are manufactured from strip)
