The Association of German Cement Works eV (VDZ) is an association of cement manufacturing companies in Germany. The task of the VDZ is to maintain and promote the common economic interests of the German cement industry as well as to promote technology and science. This applies in particular to research and development in the field of the production of cement and other hydraulic binders as well as their application, e.g. B: in concrete and mortar . To this end, VDZ maintains the cement industry research center in Düsseldorf. In addition, the association for the cement industry is involved in committees and standardization committees and participates in the creation of technical guidelines. The VDZ provides advice to its members. The seat of the association is Düsseldorf .

history

On January 24, 1877, 23 cement plants merged to form the Association of German Cement Manufacturers. Together they campaigned for the creation of a cement standard and the definition of minimum requirements for product properties. After internal disputes over the question of the use of other main components in cement, it was renamed the Association of German Portland Cement Manufacturers in 1889. The manufacturers of iron portland cement and blast furnace cement manufacturers excluded during the dispute founded their own associations in 1902 and 1913 respectively. From then on, the three cement associations had their own technical and scientific facilities and laboratories. It was not until 1941 that the three associations came closer to one another and formed a working group from which the Association of German Portland and Hüttenzementwerke emerged in 1948. In 1952 this technical and scientific association was renamed the Association of German Cement Works. In 2012, the Federal Association of the German Cement Industry eV (BDZ), until now the economic and political union of the German cement manufacturers, and the VDZ merged.
