Association for sexual equality

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The association for sexual equality e. V. (VSG) was an important gay group in Munich and existed from 1974 to 1998. It was the forerunner of today's Munich gay center Sub . In contrast to many other fast-paced gay groups, he was a long-term part of the scene and an important point of contact. He created the first non-commercial meeting places for gays and took care of their psycho-social counseling for the first time. He also became known in his later years for supporting self-help in pedophilia .

history

The VSG was founded in 1974 as part of the second German gay movement . It emerged from the over-indebted and dissolved Munich branch of the IHWO ( International Homosexual World Organization ). Members were the more middle-class gays (as opposed to the HAM or HAG, which is more student and politically left-wing).

At the end of 1974, VSG and the student HAG ( Homosexual Action Community ) merged to found the tea room . The tea room should be a center for all gays and support internal emancipation.

In 1975 the VSG laid a wreath for the first time in the Dachau concentration camp memorial to commemorate the homosexuals persecuted during the National Socialist era . This group of victims was denied public presence at the time.

In 1976, the VSG organized the annual Whitsun meeting of political gay groups in Munich together with the tea room . The tea room was at this time under precautionary siege of the Bavarian police. Nevertheless, a spontaneous demonstration of around 200 gays took place in the Nymphenburg Palace Park .

In the following years the political arm of the left gay movement lost its importance. Many members of the HAM joined the VSG, which made it more diverse and strengthened.

In 1980 the VSG organized the first Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Munich under Guido Vael , Rainer Schilling and Karl-Georg Cruse , in which around 100 to 200 people took part.

From 1980 to 1987 the VSG published the gay magazine kellerjournal ; also initiated by Guido Vael, Rainer Schilling and Karl-Georg Kruse, who formed the original editorial team. The name kellerjournal was an allusion to the fact that the VSG had its club rooms in the basement of a house at Weißenburger Straße 26 in the Haidhausen district .

A pink telephone offered advice twice a week in the evenings. The advisory group was the first professional gay advice service, but its offer could only be published in the paper because the big daily newspapers still refused to advertise.

In 1982 there were internal quarrels between the leadership and the younger members. The board of directors excluded the theater and youth group from the association after criticism. In response, they founded their own group, the HALT ( Homosexual Alternative ), and another dissent group called Rosa Freizeit .

In the spring of 1983, after the emergence of AIDS , the VSG organized a first information event at the Vollmarhaus, which was very well attended and raised awareness for prevention.

In January 1984 the VSG founded the Münchner AIDS-Hilfe together with the MLC ( Münchner Löwen Club ) and the Münchner HuK ( homosexuals and church ).

At the end of the 1980s it became quiet around the VSG due to the many other groups. Many members migrated to the SchwuKK ( Gay Culture and Communication Center ).

In 1988 the VSG lost its center on Daucher Straße and became a subtenant of the SchwuKK. Telephone advice was taken over by Sub , the center of the SchwuKK.

In autumn 1994 the VSG was expelled from the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA), of which it was a member. The reason was the different ratings of pedophilia . The association had a working group on this subject, which the ILGA was not aware of at the time the association was accepted. ILGA applied for NGO and UN status and does not accept groups that support pedophilia. The ILGA then initially suspended the VSG from its membership. In June 1995 the exclusion of the VSG was decided.

In 1998 the VSG dissolved. He saw his goals as achieved (abolition of § 175 StGB and erection of a memorial stone in the Dachau concentration camp) or as unachievable ( support for pedophiles ).

The archived documents are cataloged in the Forum Homosexuality Munich (open holdings in the basement journal / holdings in Gustl Angstmann / closed holdings in Guido Vael).
