The United Wertach electricity Werke GmbH ( VWEW ) is a municipal utility company, who as municipal utilities , municipalities Kaufbeuren , Marktoberdorf and Mindelheim also supplies as well as some smaller communities primarily with electricity and since 2011 with natural gas.
history
The GmbH was founded in 1941 and emerged from a special purpose association founded in 1938 ("Vereinigte Elektrizitätswerke Kaufbeuren Mindelheim"), which was joined by the founders until 1942, the town of Marktoberdorf and the then municipality of Köngetried.
Since June 2010, VWEW has been operating the city's first charging station on the premises in Kaufbeuren .
Shareholders
The VWEW is owned by the cities and municipalities that are supplied with electricity. The shares are divided as follows:
- 60.76% Kaufbeuren
- 25.32% Mindelheim
- 12.66% Marktoberdorf
- 0.76% apple strain and
- 0.51% Ebenhofen
Energy generation and infrastructure
As a basic supplier, VWEW supplies around 70,000 residents and is one of the 40 largest energy service providers in Bavaria with a total electricity turnover of around 370 million kilowatt hours. With its own network control center, the company looks after a power network consisting of around 475 km of medium-voltage and 1,197 km of low-voltage lines.
Hydropower plants
Seven small and medium-sized hydropower plants on the Wertach and its tributaries with an expansion capacity of around 7.5 megawatts generate around 27.9 million kWh of electricity as self-generated from hydropower. On the other hand, there is an external electricity purchase of 344.4 million kWh per year, i.e. H. In 2015, VWEW only produced around 7.5 percent of the electricity sold. Most of the electricity is purchased from the Lechwerke .

Diesel power plants
The VWEW operate four diesel power plants, which are not involved in the base load supply , but are only switched on in an emergency.

Holdings
VWEW have a 45 percent stake in Allgäu Energie AG Mindelheim, which was founded in 2009 by Xaver Riebel Holding. The aim of the AG is to earn money primarily with photovoltaics . In 2010 Allgäu Energie AG generated a minus of 156,000 euros, and profits are not foreseeable in the next few years.
