Association of Mary the Helper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of Mary the Helper (Italian Associazione di Maria Ausiliatrice, abbreviation ADMA) is a worldwide active Catholic organization based in Turin . It has about 35,000 members (2002) and belongs to the Don Bosco family .

history

The group founded by Don Bosco was canonically established on April 18, 1869 by the Archbishop of Turin Alessandro Riccardi di Netro. Pope Pius IX raised them to arch brotherhood for the diocese of Turin with the right to include all associations of this name and the corresponding statutes and extended this privilege on March 2, 1877 to all dioceses of Piedmont . On June 25, 1889, the then superior general of the Salesians Don Bosco received Michael Rua from Pope Leo XIII. the right to create and affiliate such associations in all Salesian churches of the world. In 1894 this approval was also given to all Salesian branches. Finally, in 1896, it was extended to all churches in the world.

On July 5, 1989, the Superior General of the Salesians Don Egidio Viganò declared that he belonged to the Don Bosco family.

Now that the meaning of the term arch brotherhood has changed, the association would most likely be classified under spiritual community today .

spirituality

Already given by Don Bosco, the aim of the association is to promote the veneration of the Most Holy Sacrament and Mary, under its title Help of Christians . It does this in all public and private forms approved by the Church. It is not for nothing that the worldwide organization has had its seat in Turin - Valdocco , at the sanctuary of the Basilica of Our Lady , which was built by Don Bosco himself.
