Verena Lappe

Verena Lappe (born May 29, 1956 in Hamburg ) is a Hamburg politician on the Green Alternative List (GAL).

Life

Lappe has lived in a registered civil partnership since 2001 ; she and her partner were the first lesbian couple to be registered after the establishment of the Hamburg marriage , the forerunner of the Civil Partnership Act, in 1999.

In 1975 she left the Oberalster high school with the Abitur. From 1975 to 1977 she trained as a bookseller . From 1978 to 1984 she studied psychology at the University of Hamburg . She then worked in a specialist legal bookstore until 1987. From 1987 to 1996 she was a lecturer at various universities and departments on the subject of “women's studies”. She received her PhD in 1996. From 1997 to 2001 she was a member of the GAL parliamentary group. Lappe was an honorary sports youth leader from 1973 to 1979. From 1992 to 1995 she was a volunteer advisor for the so-called "Lesbian Telephone" at the Magnus Hirschfeld Center.

Lappe was the spokeswoman for the GAL in the Women's Committee North from 1999 to 2001. In 2001 she joined the GAL. From October 2001 to March 2008 she was a member of the citizenship of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg . As a member of the state parliament , she was a member of the budget committee and since 2004 has been the vice-president of the Hamburg Parliament . In the elections on February 24, 2008 , Lappe failed to regain membership in the citizenship and lost her citizenship mandate; since June 2008 she has been an employee of the GAL members of parliament and Vice President Nebahat Güclü for the social, migration and women departments.
