history

VVR publishing house in Remagen today
Former VVR publishing house in Remagen

The company was founded in 1931 by Adolf Wirtzfeld in what was then a rather new legal form of a GmbH . The publishing house quickly established itself on the market and can be seen as a pioneer of later institutions that deal with road traffic in the course of increasing traffic density. At the beginning of the 1930s, the in- house print shop produced the first self-designed textbooks and teaching materials for the needs of driving schools . The publisher thus had a lasting influence on the development of driving schools in Germany . In the mid-1950s, the first instructional films for use in driving schools, slide presentations and detailed demonstration models of vehicle parts were made. In the spring of 1958 the first edition of the "VVR-Nachrichten" appeared, a 32-page journal with information for the driving instructor about legal innovations and current publishing house products. At the beginning of the 1960s, the VVR played a key role in establishing the multiple-choice test procedure that is still valid today as a standard test procedure on the market. The editorial team of the publisher developed the first questionnaires with incorrect answers that were still self-developed at the time. In the years that followed, the VVR produced not only an overhead transparency teaching system but also a series of educational films , initially in the Super8 film format and later, with the advent of the video age, on video cassette . In 1997, the VVR produced teaching software on CD-i , following the needs of driving schools for more varied and multimedia teaching design. In the following years, the VVR developed a dual-screen software teaching system for driving instructors based on Windows with touchscreen and whiteboard functionality. In 2011 the founding family Wirtzfeld handed over the publishing business to admigro media GmbH after three generations of management . In the course of the restructuring, the company's own print shop was closed and this area of responsibility was outsourced. In January 2012, the editing , development, sales and customer service departments were completely relocated to the former VVR administration building .
