The Bertelsmann Foundation is a German book publisher with headquarters in Gütersloh .

history

In 1977 Reinhard Mohn set up the non-profit Bertelsmann Foundation . The expansion of activities in the 1980s led to an increasing number of publications. In response to this, the Bertelsmann Stiftung publishing house was founded in September 1985. According to the articles of association, its purpose is to “operate a publishing business by publishing the results of projects initiated or funded by the Bertelsmann Stiftung in accordance with its articles of association.” The Bertelsmann Stiftung publishing house is run as a commercial purpose business within the meaning of the tax code and is entered in the commercial register.

One of the first publications was the German report on the International Library Colloquium. The Bertelsmann Stiftung publishing house today has around 300 deliverable titles in its range. Around 20 novelties appear annually . These are books, studies, anthologies and working materials from the Foundation's areas of activity. The publications appear in printed and digital form ( e-books ). Audiobooks are also part of the publishing program.

The Bertelsmann Stiftung publishing house participates in the directory of available books . Distribution is carried out by Vereinigte Verlagsausendung, a company owned by the Bertelsmann subsidiary Arvato , and Dessauer for the Swiss book trade.

The Bertelsmann Stiftung publisher regularly exhibits at the Frankfurt Book Fair and is also represented at the Leipzig Book Fair .
