Vermilion Energy is an international natural gas and oil producer based in the Canadian city of Calgary . The company operates in North America, Europe and Australia.
In Germany, the subsidiary Vermilion Energy GmbH & Co. KG has been running the business since 2013.
Vermilion in Germany
In February 2014, the company acquired 25% of a consortium of GDF Suez , which produces natural gas from four production areas with 14 production wells. These production and other exploration areas cover around 850 km 2 in southern Lower Saxony .
In July 2015, the company took part in 19 explorations in Lower Saxony, covering an area of around 10,000 km 2 . It takes over the operational management for the exact investigation in eleven licenses from ExxonMobil Production Deutschland GmbH.
In June 2016, Vermilion Energy Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG signed a purchase agreement with ENGIE E&P Deutschland GmbH to take over stakes in producing oil and gas fields in Lower Saxony . With this acquisition, Vermilion Energy is establishing itself not only in exploration but also in the extraction of conventional crude oil and natural gas as an operator in Lower Saxony and is also involved in other producing fields. With the purchase agreement valid on January 1, 2017, Vermilion acquired a total of nine oil and four natural gas fields in the East Hanover and East Frisia area.
In 2017, Vermilion Energy's German office was voted 7th among the best employers in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. In the same year, the company from Berlin-Schönefeld received permission to drill in the 600 square kilometer Aller field.
In 2018, the company set up a neighborhood fund to promote the regions where oil and gas are extracted.
Vermilion International
In Europe, Vermilion has been active in France since 1997, in the Netherlands since 2004 and in Ireland since 2009. The company has been operating in Australia since 2005.
