The New Church Witikon is an Evangelical Reformed church in the city of Zurich . It is located at Witikonerstrasse 288 in the center of the Witikon district of the same name .

history

When the Witikon quarter grew steadily in the 20th century due to its proximity to downtown Zurich, the Reformed parish had to build a new one to complement the old church . Theodor Laubi won the architecture competition; the church was built according to his plans in the years 1955–1957 in the middle of the quarter on a sloping area at the corner of Witikonerstrasse and Heilighüsli .

In 1981 the interior of the church was rebuilt and adapted to the new needs.

Building description

South-east side of the building

From a distance, the free-standing bell tower indicates the location of the New Witikon Church. It has a five-part bell, which sounds in the tone sequence As ° c 'es' f 'g' and was manufactured in 1956 by the H. Rüetschi bell foundry . From the Witikionerstrasse, the visitor reaches the ensemble, which consists of the church, a rectory and a parish center, via a wide forecourt . The buildings are accessed with connecting structures. From the outside, the ensemble shows an architecture typical of the time, which shows a relationship between the New Church in Witikon, the Stefanskirche Hirzenbach in Schwamendingen and the Markuskirche in Seebach . Fine, elegant concrete pillars structure the longitudinal facades of the polygonal church. In 1981 the interior of the church underwent major changes to adapt it to the liturgical needs of the time.
