In 1975 he was appointed as a piano lecturer at the Zurich University of Music, later also for the subjects of score playing , chamber music , composition, organ and organ improvisation. From 1978 to 2016 Wegmann worked as a full-time organist for the reformed parish of Zurich-Witikon ( Old Church Witikon , New Church Witikon ). There he directed the “Wittiker Concerts” for many years.

Wegmann has composed around 500 works so far. In order to be able to perform new music in the church, he developed the so-called fluctuating harmony . This approach does not avoid tonality , but it can no longer be clearly defined due to certain composition techniques. Wegmann often uses this method of composition for sacred and popular works.

Wegmann gives concerts as a pianist and organist and works as a publisher and producer .
