Shahpour Shahbazi , otherwise transcribed Shahpur Shahbaz ( Persian شاهپور شهبازی; * June 5, 1961 in Kermanshah , Iran ), is an Iranian film director , screenwriter and author .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Iran, Shahbazi moved to the Federal Republic of Germany to start studying. After graduating from the Studienkolleg at the University of Heidelberg , he studied philosophy with Peter Sloterdijk and Boris Groys as well as film art with Hans Beller and Lothar Spree at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe . After graduating, Shahbazi continued his doctoral thesis with Boris Groys in Karlsruhe.

From 2005 to 2019, in addition to his teaching activities as an honorary lecturer at various universities in Tehran and Isfahan, he published six books on the subjects of feature film theory, screenwriting and film analysis. His first book on theories of screenwriting won the Golden Pen Award for Best Book in Film in 2007. His film review for Hotel Budapest was awarded first prize for best analysis by the Association of Iranian Writers and Film Critics .

In addition to these activities, he wrote a number of scripts for feature films and television series. His short film Scarecrow (1999) was nominated for best short film at the Fajr International Film Festival and screened at the Iranian Film Festival in Toronto . He received a third prize in Cologne and Karlsruhe and took part in film festivals in Frankfurt am Main. The film was broadcast on German television by the broadcasters ZDF and 3sat as well as at the start of the film festival in Munich.

He is an active member of the Association of German Film Critics in Germany and of Anjoman Montaghedan va Nevisandegan Cinemaye Iran (Iranian Association of Film Critics and Writers) in Iran.

  • Winner of the special prize of the international jury on the 40th anniversary of the Roshd Festival for the film "Brücke" (pol)
  • Winner of the award for directors at the short film festival in Germany (1999)
