The veiled peasant girl ( Danish Bondepige med slør ; Low German Buenderern with Sleier ) is a traditional Holstein dessert , which is particularly widespread in Denmark and Friesland in various variations . The ingredients are usually layered in a glass and garnished with a whipped cream.

Depending on the recipe variant , the basic ingredient of the dessert can be crumbled wholemeal bread , pumpernickel or oat flakes , which are caramelized in a pan with butter and sugar . After the bread crumbs or oat flakes have cooled down, they are poured into a glass and covered with applesauce and smoothly stirred raspberry jam or cranberry jelly. The conclusion is whipped cream, which is served with either bread or chocolate sprinkles, jam or jelly or raspberry fruits. Sliced almonds are also occasionally used for decoration.

A similar dish is in the Westphalian kitchen spread Westphalian jelly .
