This sculpture could become a new symbol for the museum. It's like looking at the sun during a sunrise. "

history

The leitmotif of the Tony Cragg retrospective “Parts of the World” 2016 in the Von der Heydt Museum

The first version of the sculpture, made of red lacquered plywood, was created for the pyramid of the Louvre in Paris (Tony Cragg's solo exhibition: "Figure in Figure out" January to June 2011). This was the first sculpture ever to be exhibited on the base in the entrance area of the pyramid.

The Duisburg Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art showed a blood-red version of Versus (2011) in the exhibition "Anthony Cragg - Things in Your Head".

Versus (2017) was acquired by the Wuppertal entrepreneur Eberhard Robke on the occasion of his 80th birthday and handed over to the Wuppertal Art and Museum Association on March 31, 2017 . The acquisition was made by Robke, a long-time chairman of the Art and Museum Association, not through the Renate and Eberhard Robke Foundation, but wanted to give the sculpture personally as a gift. It was commissioned by Robke after the retrospective in June 2016.
