The Audi A8 (internal type designation 4N or series code F8 in the FIN ) is a luxury sedan from Audi AG , which has been produced at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm since 2017 .
A variant with a longer wheelbase A8 L is also available.
Model history
The A8 was presented on July 11, 2017 at a manufacturer's own event, the first “Audi Summit”, at the exhibition center in Barcelona . The vehicle was shown to a trade fair audience for the first time at the IAA 2017. The first vehicles were delivered in November 2017.

Engines
Since the start of the A8 was with two six-cylinder engines in V-type offered a petrol and a diesel engine . The 3.0-l petrol engine (55 TFSI ) has a maximum output of 250 kW (340 PS), the 3.0-l diesel engine (50 TDI ) a maximum of 210 kW (286 PS). The plug-in hybrid 60 TFSI e with a system output of 330 kW (449 PS), which is based on the 3.0-liter gasoline engine with 250 kW (340 PS), has been available since October 2019 . Two 4.0-liter eight-cylinder engines followed , both as a diesel engine and as a gasoline engine . The Otto develops 338 kW (460 PS) as the 60 TFSI or 420 kW (571 PS) in the S8 TFSI. The 320 kW (435 PS) diesel is sold as a 60 TDI.
All units have a 48-volt electrical system which, together with the belt starter generator, forms the MHEV technology (mild hybrid electric vehicle). Even when the engine is switched off and the drive train is disconnected, it is possible to roll, so-called " sailing ". The starter generator should also enable the engine to be switched off less roughly.
landing gear
The A8 has an air-sprung chassis and electrical actuators ( active wheel suspension ) on each wheel that adjust it to uneven road surfaces. If the car detects a side impact, it can be raised eight centimeters to reduce the risk of injury.
body
Instead of aluminum , high-strength steels are increasingly being used.
Assistance systems
On request, the A8 can be prepared for driving on motorways in heavy traffic at speeds of up to 60 km / h without having to constantly have hands on the wheel (technical term level 3 ).
