The Audi S1 is a small car from the German car manufacturer Audi that was presented at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show . The name S1 has already been used on the rally version of the Audi Sport quattro . With 170 kW (231 hp) the S1 is the most powerful series model in the A1 series . Only the small series A1 quattro with 188 kW (256 hp), limited to 333 units, had more power . The S1 was offered as a three-door and five-door Sportback from summer 2014 at prices in Germany from 29,950 euros. A special feature in this vehicle class is the standard quattro all-wheel drive .

Comparable competition vehicles are the Ford Fiesta ST (147 kW / 200 PS), Opel Corsa OPC (152 kW / 207 PS), Mini John Cooper Works (170 kW / 231 PS), Citroën DS3 Racing (152 kW / 207 PS), VW Polo R WRC Street (162 kW / 220 PS) and the Abarth 695 biposto (140 kW / 190 PS).

Differences to A1

The Audi S1 is not only a new engine or equipment variant of the A1, it also shows the facelift of the entire series. This becomes clear on the outside through the changed front and rear bumpers, a wider but flatter radiator grille and a new design of the taillights. The headlights are narrower and more angular and now have arrow-shaped LED daytime running lights. The latter is standard on the S1 including xenon headlights and LED rear lights. Only details have been changed in the interior, for example there are new chrome elements on the radio and the window regulators. The standard equipment of the S1 also includes 17-inch light-alloy wheels, a tire pressure control display, front sports seats with a fabric-leather combination, a black headliner, a light and rain sensor and automatic air conditioning.

New in the S1 is the audi drive select , a system with which various vehicle settings such as the accelerator pedal characteristic can be influenced between sporty, balanced and efficient. As with all S models from Audi, the exterior mirrors on the S1 have an aluminum look and include other specific equipment: stainless steel pedals, leather sports steering wheel, a four-pipe exhaust system and special door sills. The equipment at no extra charge also includes lumbar supports, an on-board computer and the interior lighting with LED technology. Two new paint finishes (Vegas Yellow Uni or Sepang Blue, pearl effect), a multifunction leather steering wheel with a flattened bottom and red brake callipers are optionally available.

A new feature is the “follow-up collision” brake assistant, which prevents the vehicle from rolling away after an accident and is thus intended to avoid further collisions. The all-wheel drive works with a hydraulic multi-plate clutch on the rear axle. An electronic transverse lock is intended to provide better handling by braking the wheels on the inside of the curve. Some components of the brake system, such as the brake discs, have been enlarged due to the higher performance. The electromechanical power steering has also been made sportier. The swivel bearings at the front of the chassis have been modified and a four-link variant is used on the rear axle instead of the twist beam construction. The track of the vehicle has also been widened and the shock absorbers of the sports suspension can be set in two stages (automatic or dynamic). Due to the design of the all-wheel drive and chassis, the trunk volume is reduced by 60 liters compared to the A1 to 210 or 860 liters with the rear seat backs folded down.
