The Audi A7 C7 (internal type designation 4G) is a five-door passenger car with hatchback produced by Audi AG . It has the same platform as the Audi A6 C7 .
The Federal Motor Transport Authority names the Audi A7 in the luxury class segment .
Design and model history
The vehicle is based on the Audi Sportback Concept study presented at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) 2009 . The cockpit was carried over from the study to the series almost unchanged.
The A7 was presented as a series vehicle on July 27, 2010 in the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and had its formal public premiere at the 2010 Mondial de l'Automobile .
The rear of the Audi A7 cites that of the Audi 100 Coupé S built from mid-1970 to summer 1976 . The vehicle has a c W value of 0.28 and a located at km 140 / h rear spoiler automatically.
Furnishing
Audi offered a head-up display as an option in the A7 for the first time ; this projects information from the navigation system and the speed onto the windscreen. The instrument panel includes a 6.5 "monitor as a single screen; this is part of the Audi MMI - infotainment system .
Engines
The vehicle was initially offered with four six-cylinder engines: a 2.8 FSI with 150 kW (204 PS) and a 3.0 TFSI with 220 kW (300 PS) were offered as gasoline engines. Two versions of the 3.0 TDI engine with 150 kW (204 PS) or 180 kW (245 PS) are available as diesel. Models with all-wheel drive are equipped with the S tronic dual clutch transmission . The 150 kW motors, which have front-wheel drive, are supplied with the Multitronic continuously variable automatic transmission .
Another expansion stage of the 3.0 TDI followed in autumn 2011 - with twin-turbo charging and 230 kW (313 hp), as was previously offered in the Audi A6 C7 . In addition, in March 2012 the output of the 3.0 TFSI was increased to 228 kW (310 PS) and the S7 sports version was presented. As in the Audi S6 C7, the Audi S7 has a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with an output of 309 kW (420 hp) and is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.7 seconds.
The RS7 model of the A7 was presented at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in early 2013. The engine used is a 4-liter V8 biturbo engine with a capacity of 412 kW (560 hp), which is supposed to accelerate the RS7 to 100 km / h in 3.9 s.
Facelift
The modified Audi A7 and S7 were presented in May 2014. The main features at the front are narrow headlights, a wider radiator grille and modified bumpers. At the rear, the graphics of the lights were changed and the rear apron was designed differently. The exhaust trims are now rectangular instead of round and the taillights have the so-called dynamic flashing light as standard. LED front headlights (optional matrix LED technology) also became standard . In addition to new exterior colors and wheel designs, there were other materials in the interior, several additional chrome elements and a new automatic selector lever.
In addition, the Audi MMI with Tegra 3 processor and Long Term Evolution Internet access was introduced in the A7.
The engines have all been revised and now have more power. For the first time there was a four-cylinder engine in the A7, which replaced the previous 2.8 FSI engine. For the front-wheel drive models, the multitronic has been replaced by a newly developed 7-speed S-tronic . A special lightweight brake system was used on some engines.

Exhaust scandal
In the course of the exhaust gas scandal in the automotive industry, which has been ongoing since September 2015, Federal Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced that the A7 model with diesel engine was equipped with an illegal switch-off device in the production period 2010 to 2013 , which reduces or completely switches off exhaust gas aftertreatment in road operation. Together with the A8 model, these defeat devices were installed in around 24,000 vehicles. Audi gave a technical error as the reason for the increased nitrogen oxide values and promised a conversion campaign.
In May 2018 it was announced that the 200 kW models of the Audi A7 are also affected. In these models, which is SCR - exhaust aftertreatment strongly throttled when the tank for the necessary urea solution AUS 32 exhausted.
