Model history
At the beginning of production, the cabriolet was only available with the familiar 2.3-liter five-cylinder engine. The 2.8-liter V6 engine with 128 kW (174 hp) followed in November 1992.
From January 1993 a two-liter four-cylinder was available for the convertible. Production of the 2.6-liter V6 engine with 110 kW (150 hp) began in June 1993.
In 1994 the driver airbag became standard, and there was a passenger airbag as an option. This was added to the standard equipment in 1995.
Production of the five-cylinder engine was discontinued in the summer of 1994.
From June 1995 Audi equipped the convertible (as the first convertible ever) with a 1.9-liter turbodiesel engine.
In April 1997 a facelift of the Audi convertible took place. This was characterized by a visual revision of the front section and the bumpers, a changed design of the digits in the instrument cluster which was adapted to the A4 series at that time , as well as slight improvements to the body and technology. There was also a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters and 92 kW (125 hp).
The Audi Cabriolet was available for the entire construction period with the five-speed manual transmission known from the Audi 80 at the time , as well as with a four-speed automatic transmission for an extra charge . Although Audi announced the later availability of a quattro drive in information and advertising materials at the start of production , until recently it was exclusively front-wheel drive vehicles.
