The second generation of the Audi Q5 (internal type designation FY) is a mid-range SUV that has been available since January 2017.

Model history

Audi presented the second generation of the Audi Q5 at the 2016 Paris Motor Show . The vehicle went on sale in January 2017.

In January 2017, Audi presented the SQ5 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit . This takes over the drive from the S4 B9 and is available for the first time in Germany with a gasoline engine. It was launched in June 2017.

In April 2018, the Audi Q5L was presented at the Beijing Auto Show . This has a wheelbase 88 mm longer and thus offers more space in the rear of the vehicle. The Q5L has been sold exclusively on the Chinese market since July 2018.

In June 2020, Audi presented a revised version of the Q5. The first models are to be delivered in autumn 2020.

Technology and production

This is being built in a newly built plant in Mexico (San José Chiapa). Like the previous model, the vehicle is based on the modular longitudinal construction kit (MLB), but the 2nd generation is already being used here, the MLB evo. At the market launch, a gasoline engine with a maximum output of 185 kW (252 hp) and a diesel engine in two output levels were available. For the time being, the Q5 was only available with all-wheel drive , later front-wheel drive followed for the weakest diesel engine .

safety

When in 2017 carried out Euro NCAP - Crash Test was rated the vehicle five stars, the same year by NHTSA conducted US-NCAP -Crashtest is evaluating as five stars.
