Levante-El Mercantil Valenciano is a newspaper from the Valencian country owned by Prensa Ibérica publishing house. This publisher also publishes the Información newspaperin Alicante . A predecessor of the newspaper was the Bulletin Avance (March 30 - April 15, 1939). That was the bulletin of the Valencian branch of the Falange . The newspaper later belonged to the press of the so-called Movimiento ("Movement". This was the official party of the Franco government ). From 1977 the newspaper belonged to the Medios de Comunicación Social del Estado (social communication media from the state). In 1984 it was bought by the private company Prensa Valenciana .

Their ideology can be described as center-left. In Castelló she appears as Levante de Castelló . It has different editions corresponding to the different areas of the Valencian region ( Valencia , L'Horta , Safor and so on). It is currently the most widely read newspaper in the Valencian region.

The printed edition is mostly in Spanish . But there is a daily page about cultural and social events in Catalan ( El Dau ). Every week there is also a literary addition ( Post Data ) in Catalan. Collaborations and articles are also published in Catalan every now and then. The digital edition has a version in Spanish and from May 1, 2016 there will also be another version in Catalan.
