Audi e-tron (model name)

Since 2019 , Audi has only used the term e-tron to refer to its models with purely battery-electric drive. Until 2019, the plug-in hybrid models produced in series by the automaker from 2014 were referred to as e-tron.

history

In the 1950s, Auto Union AG, the predecessor of today's Audi AG, began to deal with purely electric vehicle drives. The battery-operated DKW Schnelllaster from 1955/56 (around 100 built) and the Audi 100 (C1) EEP produced in small series in 1976 , which was a rolling test laboratory, resulted in lower driving costs per kilometer compared to the variants with combustion engines, but still too high overall operating costs.

The name e-tron was initially only used for concept vehicles. From 2014 it was also used in series production for hybrid vehicles . In 2009, Audi presented a purely electric concept vehicle variant for the first time with the Audi-e-tron show car. The Audi e-tron quattro concept vehicle was presented at the 2015 IAA . From 2018, the Audi e-tron (GE) was the first purely electrically powered model to be mass-produced. In the same year, Audi presented the Audi e-tron GT concept car at the Los Angeles Auto Show . Audi presented the Audi Q4 e-tron concept vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019. In the same year, Audi decided to use the term e-tron only for purely electrically powered models.

vehicles

From 2018 onwards, Audi launched three all-electric models with the abbreviation e-tron. In October 2019, Audi announced that it would bring 20 all-electric models onto the market by 2025.
