The Audi A5 is a mid- range model series from Audi AG . Since 2007, under this name coupes and convertibles , since 2009 hatchbacks , on the MLB - platform , ie the technical basis with longitudinally mounted front engine , on the well since 2008, the Audi A4 offered -Modellreihe based. The coupé variant (internal type designation 8T) of the first generation of the A5 was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007 . The A5 is Audi's first mid-range coupé since the Audi Coupé B3, which was built until 1996 . The coupé was followed by a convertible in 2009, which replaced the Audi A4 convertible , and also in 2009 by a five-door hatchback called the Sportback. The first generation was produced at two locations. While the Coupé and the hatchback variant including their S / RS models rolled off the assembly line in Ingolstadt , the Cabriolet (internal type designation 8F) was manufactured in all versions at the Neckarsulm plant .

The second generation (internal type designation F5) on the MLBevo platform, which was presented in the coupé version in June 2016 and the hatchback sedan variant Sportback in October 2016, only rolls off the assembly line in Ingolstadt. The cabriolet was presented in November 2016 and is produced in Neckarsulm.

Registration numbers

Since the market launch in 2007 up to and including December 2019, a total of 236,611 A5, S5 and RS5 have been newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany. 2010 was the most successful sales year with 24,095 units.
