The first-generation RS5 is based on the A5 8T and was formally presented as a coupé at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. The vehicle was only available with a 7-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission . The prices for the sports coupe started at 77,700 euros.

design

The lines of the RS5, based on the original Quattro , are based on the Audi A5, which was designed by Walter Maria de'Silva .

Rear view

Compared to the variants of the Audi A5, the RS model is distinguished by the following external changes in addition to the engine and transmission:

  • modified front and rear bumpers
  • no fog lights, but air inlets in the front apron
  • Radiator grille in diamond design
  • widened fenders front and rear
  • Side skirts
  • round fuel filler flap
  • Exterior mirrors in aluminum design
  • Body details such as the radiator grille surround in a matt aluminum look
  • two oval exhaust tips
  • an extendable rear spoiler (automatic from 120 km / h)

In the interior, among other things, leather upholstery, carbon trim, a leather sports steering wheel and seats, aluminum-look pedals and various RS5 logos are standard.

Facelift

At the IAA in September 2011, Audi formally presented the revised RS5. Like the A5, it received the family face with a modified radiator grille, narrower air intakes, and modified front and rear aprons.

The modified coupé was delivered from spring 2012. The RS5 convertible was added in autumn 2012.

Technical specifications

The engine is based on the V8 high-speed engine of the RS4 , which appeared in 2005 . Compared to this, the output of the V8 engine in the RS5 has been increased by 22 kW (30 hp) and is achieved at over 8000 rpm. The torque of 430 Nm remained unchanged, but is available in a speed range from 4000 to 6000 rpm.

The RS5 comes with the 7-speed dual clutch transmission ( S tronic ) and permanent all-wheel drive ( quattro ) as standard . For the first time, a crown gear differential is installed as a center differential instead of the otherwise common Torsen differential . Compared to its predecessor, it is two kilograms lighter and enables the drive torque to be distributed without delay. The basic distribution of drive torque is 40% on the front and 60% on the rear axle. For better traction, a maximum of 70% can be directed forwards or 85% backwards.

Transmission, accelerator and steering characteristics as well as the response behavior of the standard exhaust flap control can be changed by the driver ( audi drive select ); this also applies to the characteristics of the optional components dynamic steering and sport differential.
