The Audi RS 3 LMS is a TCR class racing car based on the facelift model of the Audi A3 / Audi RS 3 sedan . Sales began at the end of 2016. Before that, the vehicle was used by Phoenix Racing for test and trial purposes at the VLN. The Audi RS 3 LMS is the first TCR model from Audi Sport. The engine of the Audi RS 3 LMS is the same as that of the SEAT Leon TCR and Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

With its fender flares, the deep-drawn front splitter, a large air outlet on the bonnet and the rear wing suspended from above , the Audi RS 3 LMS is reminiscent of a German Touring Car Masters racing car shortly after the turn of the millennium, but with a much greater proximity to series production: the steel body comes from almost unchanged from the series.

For racing use, the body produced in the Győr plant was only lightened, reinforced in some areas and provided with a safety cell made of tubular steel, which offers the driver better safety. The four-cylinder two-liter TFSI engine also comes from series production almost unchanged. In the TCR version, it has an output of 243 kW (330 hp). The Audi RS 3 LMS accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in around 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of around 240 km / h. As required by the regulations, the vehicle has front-wheel drive.

The front wheels are suspended from MacPherson struts and wishbones, while the rear of the Audi RS 3 LMS has a multi-link axle. The vehicle height, toe and camber are infinitely adjustable, the stabilizers on the front and rear axles in three stages. The sequential six-speed racing transmission of the Audi RS 3 LMS has already been used in other racing cars in the group, as has the multi -disc limited-slip differential. To keep costs down, driving aids are prohibited in the TCR category. That is why the Audi RS 3 LMS has neither an anti-lock braking system (ABS) nor traction control (ASR) or an active differential gear .

Audi attached great importance to safety during development. The safety package includes a safety tank according to FIA regulations, a racing safety cell, the PS3 safety seat, FIA safety nets on both sides of the seat and a rescue hatch in the roof similar to the Audi R8 LMS .
