The Audi R18 RP6 is a sports car prototype developed and built by Audi Sport in accordance with LMP1 regulations. The car participated in the season 2016 in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the 24-hour race at Le Mans in part. He was able to win the 6-hour races in Spa Francorchamps and Bahrain , in Silverstone the car crossed the finish line first, but was subsequently disqualified because the floor plate was too thin.

It is the last prototype built by Audi before the brand left the WEC.

development

The vehicle was presented to the public on March 22, 2016. Compared to the previous year's vehicle , numerous changes have been made. Most noticeable is the front, which has been redesigned for better aerodynamics , with differently positioned headlights and the new nose, which is reminiscent of that of a Formula 1 racing car. The hybrid system has been extensively revised. Lithium-ion batteries are now used; the Audi was therefore upgraded to the six megajoule class. Instead of a seven-speed gearbox as in the predecessor, a six-speed gearbox was installed.

According to Audi, the new R18 is more powerful and efficient than ever. The name has also been changed: the new R18 is no longer called the Audi R18 e-tron quattro, but just the Audi R18.

Driver line-up

There's a big change from last year. Audi and its sister company Porsche used only two instead of three vehicles for the entire WEC season, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
