The A3 (internal type designation 8L ) is a compact class passenger car from Audi , which was produced between autumn 1996 and mid-2003 in Germany and until the end of 2006 in Brazil. Model history

Facelift

In September 2000 the A3 underwent a facelift, both visually and technically. Among other things, the headlights, interior fittings and rear lights were modified, making the car look closer to the A4 B6 that appeared in November 2000 . The revised model should appear "more aggressive", "adult" and higher quality than its predecessor thanks to the double headlights behind the clear glass.

The Audi A3 has front-wheel drive as standard. The Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system (in the A3 with Haldex clutch ) was available as an option. The sporty designed S3 was powered on all four wheels.

Engines

The range of gasoline engines ranged from the 1.6-liter engine with a maximum output of 75 kW (102 hp) to the top model S3 with a 1.8-liter turbo engine and initially 154 kW (210 hp) maximum output the diesel engines with a displacement of 1.9 liters and maximum outputs of 66 kW (90 PS) to 96 kW (130 PS). After the facelift in September 2000, the engines of the first models continued to be used.
