The monument in Düren city park

The defense of a Sabine woman is a sculpture by the Berlin sculptor Joseph Uphues . He created the figure in 1886 as a larger than life bronze group in the neo-baroque style. She receives and interprets the group Raub der Sabinerin by Reinhold Begas , whose pupil was Uphues.

The motif comes from the legend about Romulus and Remus .

The sculpture was acquired for his garden by Philipp Schoeller from Düren , son of Leopold Schoeller and manager of the Anker carpet factory. Today it is located in the Düren city park and is a listed building .

In May 2020, an attempt to steal the sculpture failed.
