BOR's protégés included the President of the Republic of Poland , both Parliament Speakers , the Prime Minister and his deputy, as well as the Interior and Foreign Ministers. Furthermore, BOR guaranteed the protection of former presidents, foreign delegations located on the territory of the Republic of Poland and other persons in need of protection important to the state.

In addition to the presidential palace and the facilities that serve the prime minister as well as the foreign and interior ministers, BOR guarded all Polish embassies , consulates and representations at international organizations, such as the UN or NATO , that are located outside of Polish territory.

BOR was also responsible for the pyrotechnic protection of the Sejm , the Polish parliament.

history

After Poland gained independence and the Second Polish Republic was founded in 1918, the protection of the most important people in the country had to be guaranteed. However, the newly formed presidential guard turned out to be extremely ineffective as early as 1922 when the painter Eligiusz Niewiadomski succeeded in assassinating the then President Gabriel Narutowicz . As a result of this failure of the Polish security forces, Interior Minister Zygmunt Huebner put together a protective brigade on June 12, 1924, which was able to offer the President of the Polish Republic effective protection. In addition, new procedures and methods were developed to improve protection.

During the Second World War , on August 22, 1944, the "government protection department" was set up to guard the new government. The changes in the political situation in Poland and in the Ministry of the Interior led to the establishment of the Government Protection Office (BOR) in December 1956, an independent unit that was for the first time directly subordinate to the Minister of the Interior.
