contract extension

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the case of a contract extension , an existing, fixed-term or expiring contract is extended by the same contracting parties .

Narrow definition

In the case of a contract extension in the narrower sense, the contract will be continued under essentially the same conditions , whereby this can be done through a contract clause already agreed in the contract, through an option through a unilateral declaration of intent or renewed contract negotiations .

Broad definition

In the case of a contract extension in the broader sense, the same contracting parties negotiate a new contract based on the existing contract with heavily modified regulations (e.g. contract term, terms of payment , fees, scope of the contract).

Examples

In the case of continuing obligations, an attempt is often made to extend the contract using terms and conditions using term extension clauses. Likewise, in labor law after fixed-term employment contracts, contract extensions are often dealt with by case law.

reporting

In the media, athletes often report about a contract extension, without any legal distinction as to whether this was an extension of an existing contract or a new and thus different contract with changed conditions.
