The list of song postcards by Anton Günther contains - as far as is known - all self-published versions. The folk poet is considered to be the founder of the song postcard . In 1895 he was the first to put a complete song (but still without notes) on a postcard.

numbering

Anton Günther distributed his song postcards during his time in Prague until his father's death in 1902 in his own publishing house ("Joh. Günther's Selbstverlag, Gottesgab No. 113") . The first numbering was in Roman numerals from 1897 number I "Drham is' drham" to 1903 and number XXVII "Da zwa Fenk'n" . Then it made sense to switch to Arabic numbering. That brought a complete revision and restructuring. Günther brought his postcards sold for 10 Heller = 10 Pfennig, which he was still selling from door to door and from concert to concert himself, from probably 1905 in series and expanded with various music images such as "For voice and piano" or orchestra (" Rhinelander ”) then for 1.20 kroner = 1 mark or 1.80 kroner = 1.50 marks on the market.

A bohemian sponsorship agreement had the most beautiful song cards created on high-quality paper and with perfect printing. During this time between 1905 and 1910 a number of double cards such as "Da Ufenbånk." - No. X / 9, "Allerhand ve dr Guttsgoh." - No. 39 and "Snowshoe driver = march." - No. 53/54 were created. Others were embossed with gold: "Deitsch on frei wolln mr be!" - No. 44; "Deitsch is mei Liedl" - No. 11 or "Weihnachtsfried'n." - No. 26. It was the wedding of the song postcard.

Series

In order to boost sales, Anton Günther sold his cards in series of ten cards and 1 mark (10 pfennigs each). A selection resulted in the widespread numbering, which also caused the numbers to be duplicated in rows, which is the great challenge for collectors today.

The series I (1905) contained in this new numbering, which makes the change clear:

Up until Anton Günther's death in 1937, the series grew to eight (87 cards), albeit with many oddities. So everything published by then was subjected to the small series. Numerous cards have duplicated their numbering over the years and a "58" does not even exist. Which is today the right in time sequence number less Landsturm card "greeting as Kammeradn." Assigned. Numbers 60 to 64 are also not used. The card "15" does exist ("'s tuda Vöchela") , but it is extremely rare, as the number "XVI" was predominant until the 1930s.

Around 1914 a large number of simple “meaning cards” appeared, some of which were numbered (series 1 - 1 to 12).

Postcard album

In the later years an embossed postcard album was also sold, which contained a total of 94 cards.

Posthumous song postcards

  • After Anton Günther's death in 1937, the cards were initially continued to be sold by the "Verlag Wilhelm Vogel, Schwarzenberg".
  • With the establishment of the Reichsgau Sudetenland , the annexation of the Bohemian regions of Czechoslovakia , which were incorporated into the German Reich from 1939 to 1945, the cards received the publisher's note “Ant. Günther's Selbstverlag, Gottesgab, Erzgeb., Sudetengau ”, instead of“ Böhmen ”or“ Erzg. Bohemia". These cards appeared until around 1943.
  • In 1939 a series of monochrome brown reproductions appeared, which were very similar to the originals, but had a third-party draftsman's note in the “Volksbildverlag”.
  • After the Second World War , the Günther family, who were expelled in 1945 and found shelter in Oberwiesenthal, issued some cards with the notation “Anton Günthers Verlag, Oberwiesenthal” until the mid-1950s, then only loosely in the “Verlag Anton Günthers Erben”. Until the end of the 1950s, existing motifs continued to appear in the “Verlag Wilhelm Vogel, Schwarzenberg”, but with the additional note “Anton Günther's heirs”.
  • 1955–1956 a series of different authors with external images was published by “Verlag Erhardt Neubert, Chemnitz”, and in 1956 “Karl-Marx-Stadt”. That of Anton Günther with the permission of “Anton Günther's heirs” and the “VEB Friedrich Hofmeister Musikverlag, Leipzig”. This concerns the cards of the series 166: "De Ufenbank" (number 8978) "Bleibn mer noch a wing do!" (8979), "Wu de Walder haamlich rauschen" (8981), "Grüß dich Gott, mei Arzgebirg!" ( 8982), "Schneeschuhfahrer-March" (8984) and "Feierohmd" (8985). After that, no more cards appeared for decades.
  • It was not until 1987 that two motifs from the Neubert series were part of a postcard portfolio with reproductions of Ore Mountains song postcards published by the "Verlag Bild und Heimat Reichenbach / Vogtl."
  • After the fall of the Wall, various maps appeared in simple reproductions and without numbers on behalf of the "Verlag Anton Günther Heirs" from "Verlag Mike Rockstroh, Aue" from 1990 onwards.
