action

The plot of the film takes place mainly on Usedom .

After the death of her best friend Franziska Ehlers, Gabriela Wagner takes care of her daughter Theresa and her Hotel Seeschlösschen. On Theresa's eighth birthday, the Dossenbach couple turns up at the hotel quite unexpectedly. During the subsequent visit by Mrs. Wollin from the youth welfare office, it turns out that Siegfried Dossenbach, the brother of Franziska's mother and therefore Theresa's great-uncle, is. Before her death, Franziska Ehlers always said to her friend Gabriela that she should then take care of everything. Since she did not leave anything in her will, the closest relatives and thus the Dossenbachs are entitled to inheritance, since Theresa's father is unknown. Since this is not in Gabriela's mind, after Mrs. Wollin has left, she searches for Theresa's father in the remains of her friend Franziska. Since she can't find anything, she and her hotel colleague Edda decide to place an ad. This ad is titled Two Million Are Looking for a Father . Gabriela and Edda remember exactly where Franziska must have met Theresa's father.

Meanwhile, Siegfried Dossenbach goes to the town hall and explains to the mayor that he is related to the owner of the Seeschlösschen. He explains to the mayor that he wants to invest in the hotel. He has big plans for the hotel. He wants to convert it into a luxury hotel. He makes an application for approval.

Several men promptly respond to the report Two million are looking for a father who are checked with photos of Franziska, including Tommy Behrens. When he arrives, Theresa jumps off the front steps and injures her leg. He immediately takes care of Theresa and has her put on plasters and ice cream. He too is asked about Franziska and can remember everything: name, how she looked back then and exactly how they met. When asked about a paternity test , he agrees. He then goes to the doctor to have blood drawn , and Theresa and Gabriele come later to have blood drawn as well. Then Tommy stays at the Hotel Seeschlösschen.

After Theresa is back at the hotel, the Dossenbachs will pick her up. They go shopping with her in the boutique , where Theresa buys a new dress, and eat lobster that Theresa doesn't like. In addition, the two promise their great-niece many more great things, such as a balloon ride. When Theresa is back home, she tells Tommy everything and explains to him that the lobster was the nastiest thing she has ever eaten and that she prefers to eat pasta with cheese and ice cream. Again, Tommy reacts lovingly. When the Dossenbachs take her on the balloon ride the next day, Theresa gets nauseous and Tommy prevents the nausea by making her a chicken broth. The next day Theresa leads Tommy to a nearby sea otter pond, which is her favorite spot and part of the hotel property. This sea otter pond is called "Herborner Höft". Tommy likes the otters.

While everyone is waiting for the results of the paternity test, Tommy falls in love with Theresa, helps her learn maths, and Tommy and Gabriela notice that they are in love. But the Dossenbachs also notice that Tommy is not there by chance, and they get the idea that he is the father of their great niece and that a paternity test has been taken. So they take him for a little trip and when they drop him off at the hotel, Amelie Dossenbach secretly slips him a check for € 20,000. Then the nurse calls and explains that the result of the paternity test is negative, so Tommy is not the father. Then Mrs. Wollin comes in so that everything should be clarified. Gabriele finds out about the negative test result and the check and disgusts Tommy out. This drives back to Berlin.

Theresa slaughters her piggy bank and takes the train to Berlin to the Brandenburg Gate, where Tommy works at the Adlon. Gabriele follows her after she could not find her at home, when Frau Wollin came but the piggy bank was empty, and collects her again in Berlin. She accuses Tommy, who goes on to say that the check for 20,000 has just been slipped and that he wants to repeat the paternity test. But Gabriele takes Theresa with her without a word and drives back to Usedom, they arrive at Frau Wollin's youth welfare office in good time. But she can't do anything anymore and is firmly convinced that the Dossenbachs can take over the best guardianship for Theresa because they can give her a good financial future. Now Gabriele is in an emotional chaos because she seems to lose everything: her great love Tommy, Theresa and also the hotel.

After a while, Tommy returns there. It turns out that the Dossenbachs want to get a mining permit to dig for gravel that is under the farm. This is the habitat of the protected sea otters and at the same time Franziska wanted to put it under nature protection during her lifetime. Then Gabriele, Tommy, Edda and Theresa start a big campaign to show the citizens and the mayor what the Dossenbachs wanted to destroy. After Siegfried Dossenbach was exposed in this way, the mayor terminates all construction contracts that have to do with it. So the story still finds its happy ending. When Gabriele, Tommy, Theresa and Edda are having breakfast at the end of the film, the nurse comes by and has to admit that the first time the test was carried out, the samples were mixed up, but the second time it was tested correctly. It now turns out that Tommy is Theresa's father.
