Vetenskapsrådet (German: Science Council) is an administrative authority in Sweden . It is subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Research ( Utbildningsdepartementet ).

Since the 1940s, Sweden had four scientific councils covering medicine , engineering , natural sciences, and social sciences and humanities . The law on amalgamation to Vetenskapsrådet came into force on January 1, 2001. The research budget for 2019 is around 6.7 billion Swedish kronor . Its tasks are the promotion of research and research infrastructure , science communication and the analysis and evaluation of Swedish science policy .
