Viðarlundin á Tungu is a park in the village of Miðvágur on the Faroese island of Vágar . It consists mainly of spruce, pine, ash and birch and is located in the center of the village in the immediate vicinity of the church. Originally the cemetery was located here. The Faroese word viðarlund literally means "wood" and describes a park or forest in the Faroe Islands , of which only 0.06% is forested.

The municipality of Miðvágur turned to the Forestry Authority (Skógfriðingarnevndin) of the Faroe Islands on July 18, 1979 with the request to create a park in the center of the old cemetery behind the church on the area called "Á Tungu". This request was granted on July 11, 1980, so that the planting could begin.

Viðarlundin á Tungu Park is owned by the Miðvágur Municipality (Miðvágs kommuna) and covers a total area of ​​11,780 m², of which 11,590 m² is on the plot of corridor 233a, the former cemetery, and 190 m² in corridor 80. This makes it considerably larger than the Viðarlundin á Abbreyt Park in the neighboring village of Sandavágur and the largest green area on the island of Vágar.

With their cool, humid climate, the Faroe Islands are extremely unsuitable for trees to thrive, because the top of the soil is relatively thin and tree roots offer little support. It is not uncommon for strong winds to blow, which can uproot trees, and it happens that the trees fall out in a mild January or February and are surprised in spring by suddenly falling frost.

The Viðarlundin á Tungu is a special attraction of the Miðvágur municipality, as it shows that there can be a forest or a park on the Faroe Islands. Like all forests and parks in the Faroe Islands outside the capital Tórshavn , Viðarlundin á Tungu , in the middle of which there is a meadow, is fenced. It has several entrances and is criss-crossed by paved walking paths with benches.
