Vic Hoyland
Vic Hoyland (born December 11, 1945 in Yorkshire ) is an English composer.
After studying art at Hull University , Hoyland turned to music and earned his doctorate under the tutors Robert Sherlaw Johnson and Bernard Rands at York University . From 1980 to 1983 he was a Haywood Fellow at Birmingham University . After teaching at York University for two years, he returned to Birmingham, where he teaches composition.
Hoyland received composition commissions a. a. from the BBC Symphony Orchestra , the Arditti String Quartet and the Lindsay String Quartet and wrote works for the festivals of Aldeburgh , Almeida, Bath, Cheltenham, Huddersfield, South Bank and York. The piece In Transit was written in 1987 for the Proms .
In Transit was Vixen , a work commissioned by the BBC for the Cheltenham International Festival of Music , the BBC Symphony Orchestra for NMC Records added. All of Hoyland's works were broadcast on BBC Radio 3 .
